Beach Maternity Session

We had the most beautiful weather for this beach maternity session! The sun was shining, it was nice and warm, and I was super excited to do this photoshoot.

After meeting my client and getting to know her a little better we were able to figure out the perfect gown and the location. She really wanted the ocean, but the closest open coast is three hours away, so we settled on Discovery Park in Washington State instead.

Discovery Park is an amazing State Park. It has 534 acres of secluded natural area. It includes two miles of protected tidal beaches as well as open meadow lands, dramatic sea cliffs, forest groves, active sand dunes, thickets and streams.

Discovery Park is also home to one of the most popular light houses in Seattle, the West Point Lighthouse. West Point Lighthouse is one of the favorite locations for photographers of many trades. Family, High School Seniors, Engagement, Wedding and Maternity photographers all love this location. Located at a perfect spot for shooting at sunset it is surrounded by beautiful waterfront as well as gorgeous beach grass, sand, and rocks.

The only thing that I hate about this location is it's parking. The City offers only a few tiny spaces, and also require you to get a special permit to park there. Otherwise you have to park a mile away and hike down to the light house. Needless to say that does not work for me when I have to do photo sessions. The last thing I want is to make a pregnant woman hike a whole mile to have her picture taken. So, I always have to bring a driver with me to drop us off at the light house and to pick us up when we are done.

Sometimes, if it's a senior session I can ask a mom to sit in the car and wait for us, but most other times I ask my husband to come with us. He is such a trooper. Patiently waits for hours in the car until it is over. He is the best!

Now, back to the session. First we met at the main parking lot, where my client could change into her dress, and then we headed towards the open fields. There I took a few shots but not too many because my client preferred the waterfront, I'm glad I did though, because a lot of her favorite pictures were taken at the open field. I guess you never know until you see the final results.

Then we drove down to the light house to take pictures by the water, and unfortunately the tide was so high that we barely had any beach left. I had to work fast to get as many pictures by the water as I could. At one point a huge wave came in and completely soaked my clients and me!!! I was able to keep my camera dry, thank goodness for that! And, I was able to capture the wave, which turned out to be the best picture from this photoshoot. So all worked out well in the end.
